About me

Mihoko Obunai is a culinary master chef born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. In the early 1990s, she moved to New York City, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education from New York University and a degree in culinary arts from the French Culinary Institute. After completing her studies, Obunai honed her skills at renowned Michelin-starred restaurants throughout New York City.
In 2005, Obunai co-founded her first restaurant, Repast, in Midtown Atlanta. There, she brought her Japanese culinary heritage to the forefront, seamlessly incorporating Japanese ingredients, flavors, and techniques into the restaurant’s menu. Her innovative approach earned Repast a nomination for the prestigious Best New Restaurant award in the United States.
Obunai’s culinary talent has been recognized by numerous publications, and she has been invited to showcase her cuisine at the
esteemed James Beard House in New York City. She was also selected as a Rising Star Chef in the United States and has appeared on several Food Network and other television programs. Her success hosting ramen pop-ups across the country has further established her reputation for blending traditional Japanese cooking techniques with bold, savory innovation.
What sets Obunai apart is her distinctive approach to Japanese and international cuisine, with an emphasis on creating flavorful, wholesome meals. Her creative cooking style combines tradition with modern influences, offering an engaging culinary experience that is both unexpected and memorable.
